In Acts 3, Peter and John had gone up to the temple at the hour of prayer, which was approximately three o’clock in the afternoon. There was a lame man lying at the gate of the temple. He begged for money from Peter and John as they came in. Peter looked at the lame man and said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
The name of Jesus. There is power in that name. Not in the letters or the sound, but in the Person behind the name. When Peter invoked the name of Jesus, he was calling upon all the authority, all the power, all the love of the risen Christ.
Philippians 2:9-10 tells us: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”
Every knee. That includes the knees of sickness, poverty, fear, depression, and every other work of the enemy. When you praise God in the name of Jesus, you are releasing the authority of heaven into your situation. The name of Jesus is the key that unlocks the power of praise and worship.
