“In fear and amazement they asked one another, ‘Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.’”  – Luke 8:25

The Story of Hope’s Trauma Healing Center

Since the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1922, and tracing back into history as far as the year 830, the Kurdish people have struggled for self-governance. Generation after generation of Kurds have failed to achieve global recognition as an independent state. In the last 140 years, seven generations of Kurds have endured repeat conflicts and wars with only brief years of peace between.

Kurdistan is a region well acquainted with bloodshed and sacrifice. In the late 1980’s, under the orders of then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the Kurds faced the harshest price to date: the genocide of nearly 182,000 of its people.

In 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (otherwise known as ISIS) launched a campaign of genocide against minority groups living in the Kurdish region. The mass deaths of Turkmen, Shabak, Yazidis, Christians and other ethnoreligious groups is the most recent example of unimaginable trauma for which the nation has yet to heal. Hope is one of many young girls who was taken hostage by ISIS and lived to tell the story.

On a recent trip to Kurdistan, we heard from Hope and many other brothers and sisters in Christ, how much in need they are for a safe place to go for healing. As a Macedonian call of sorts, we heard them say, “Please come to Kurdistan and help us heal.” There is not a single Kurd alive today who has not been affected in some way by war. Yet, without resources and outside assistance and guidance, trauma healing will remain at the bottom of a long list of priorities and considered shameful by the general public.

As 2021 comes to a close, we are asking our friends and family to join us in establishing the very first, of what we believe will be several, Christian based trauma healing centers in Kurdistan. Located securely in the heart of a discreet neighborhood in a privately owned home, Storm Chaser Foundation’s trauma healing center will provide a safe haven for counselors trained by the Iraqi Bible Society to lead traumatized souls to the healer of our hearts, Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your support. May God bless you for your generous contribution.

Why Give?

Storm Chaser Foundation is a 501C3 not-for-profit global mission organization. Our calling is to courageously go into the world and declare the Good News of Jesus Christ among people facing catastrophic storms of all kinds. Examples of global storms include: Covid-19 lockdowns, mass unemployment and increased food insecurity among people on the verge of starvation; invasion, terror and enslavement by radical extremists; devastating hurricanes, floods, tornadoes or famines; and many more.

God sees every personal, community and global storm, and responds with healing and hope expressed through us, His stormchasers. We believe Jesus will return when His Gospel has been preached among all language groups on earth. Until that day, we will see an ever-increasing number of global storms intended to steal, kill and destroy mankind. Stormchasers have God-given courage to face terrifying storms in the name of Jesus, and to facilitate the power of God in reaching people as we await his return.
